Odd Day. Everything seemed to take much more effort than normal.

Weather seemed excellent on arrival...Sun, strong(ish) wind and mild. However whilst rigging I noticed that there were lots of holes in the wind and occasional strong gust.

Most people were on 5.5 to 6M, but I wanted to make sure I could make the most of the day and rigged a 6.7M (well I am a large chap!)

Got onto the water and the conditions proved to be very fickle. One minute drifting in a lull, the next massively overpowered. Managed a few reasonable runs, but the board kept tipping onto its rail and I had to keep a strong hold with my front hand. Managed to spin out a couple of time so tried adjusting my harness lines and boom height, but only made things worse.

Tried to drown myself, by catapulting, ending up face down under the sail, still hooked in. Overall I nearly succeeded, but the 'body' took over and in fit of adrenalin I managed to surface under the sail and push it up and off of me, whilst freeing the harness line with the other hand!

After a while I came back in to change to a smaller fin and check the harness line placement by the Guy Cribb Rule...they were almost spot on....so why was I having to use so much effort on the front arm and in constant danger of spinning out?!?!?!?!?

Went back out and the fin made a HUGE differeance. Stopped riding up on to the rails and the board felt much 'lighter', but I kept spinning out and maybe had to use even more power in my front arm. At one stage I let go with my back arm and gripped the boom in front of my harness with both arms to prove the point!

Overall a bit of a disappointing day. Maybe I should have taken a smaller sail or the smaller board, but I have been using it a lot recently and it's not mine....
